Hello and welcome to this week's preview of football taking place across the north. With the FA Cup draw seemingly sticking to the southern ties this time, this week we look to the Women’s Cup and FA Youth Cup for most of our cup excitement in the north! Four games with tickets around £5 are taking place in the North West over the next few days and you would be well advised to take in one of them. Perhaps Everton’s Under 18s playing at Goodison is the stand out at just £3 for adults!
In the North East, there is only one real choice. South Shields and Warrington face off in a top two clash on Saturday. With Newcastle, Sunderland, Gateshead, Hartlepool, Spennymoor and Blyth all not playing at home that day, the choice is clear.
Meanwhile, in South Yorkshire, huge games at Doncaster and Rotherham are both all but sold out. There is still excitement to be had though in the two fixtures at Sheffield United, especially their massive clash against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
I hope you all celebrated like I did when a cessation to the strikes across the Northern Railway network was announced this week. This Saturday will be the first one this season not affected by the strikes and will make games in areas like Lancashire and South Yorkshire much easier to attend. You should, however, remember that this is just a guide, strikes are always possible and my route suggestions might not work. Especially after late midweek games. You should always make sure you have your route home well planned! Have a fantastic weekend!

Sky Bet Championship
7.45pm Hull City v Rotherham United
Where: KCOM Stadium, Walton St, Hull HU3 6HU
Public Transport: Hull (Paragon Interchange) Station is served directly by TransPennine Express services from Manchester and Leeds along with Northern services from Doncaster and York. The stadium is a 20-minute walk or a short bus ride away.
Tickets: £18-30 (No Concessions) https://tickets.hullcitytigers.com/
Preview: Defeat to Derby last time out provided Hull with a reality-check to their play-off ambitions. Still, a win here would represent their sixth home win in a row, a feat they haven’t achieved at this level in over 50 years! Rotherham remain a point above the drop following their disappointing draw at home to Wigan last weekend.
Sky Bet League One
7.45pm Doncaster Rovers v Southend United

Preview: Last weekend’s home victory against Peterborough saw Doncaster leapfrog their opponents into the playoffs. This is the first of two games in hand where they will try to build a cushion on the teams beneath them. Southend have been frustratingly inconsistent this year so Doncaster will go into this fixture not knowing what to expect.
7.45pm Sunderland v Blackpool
Where: Stadium of Light, Sunderland, SR5 1SU

Preview: Home comforts will be welcomed after a chastening defeat at the hands of Southport knocked a fair amount of the wind from Chorley’s sails. Brackley’s away form has been decidedly mixed this season, so facing last seasons beaten play-off finalists may not be as challenging as their 6th-place position suggests.

Preview: After holding on for a big draw away against a Rotherham side who sit just below them, the Latics can turn this into an enormous week with victory over a Stoke side who sit just above them. Stoke have lost their last three, but they did beat Leeds before that.
FA Youth Cup
7.00pm Liverpool v Wigan Athletic

Preview: Before midweek, Preston sit only five points behind Nottingham Forest in 9th place. Strange perhaps, that these points represent the difference between a play-off challenge and mid-table obscurity. Maybe it won’t be as over for either side if Preston are celebrating a second win in a week.

Preview: Barnsley are 11-games unbeaten in the league. The last side to beat them? Wycombe Wanderers. The visitors are beginning to fade into mid-table and will need to win here to keep touch with the playoffs. Barnsley will know that their form will need to remain spectacular to hang on to Luton’s coattails.

Preview: It is very tight at the bottom of League One. A win here could conceivably see Bradford rise from 23rd to 17th. Indeed, Plymouth in 15th won’t be feeling safe by any stretch of the imagination. However, with Bradford having played a game more than most sides around them, there will definitely be pressure on them to get a result here.

Tickets: Adult £16-18, Student, U21 & 65+ £8, U18 £5. (Matchday prices increase by £4 for adults and £2 for concessions and juniors.) https://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/tickets/

Where: CNG Stadium, Wetherby Road, Harrogate, HG2 7SA
Public Transport: Trains every 30 minutes from Leeds and hourly from York to Harrogate station. The 36 bus also links Leeds and Harrogate with a frequent service.
